How simple it can be

Warning: this blog contains conversations around women's health.

I was recently at a wedding ceremony for an friend I have known for decades. In the way of weddings, I was able to reconnect with other friends who I haven't seen in years. One such friend and I hadn't seen each other in at least 15 years, but it was like no time had past.

We caught up on life, marriages, children, divorce, children, careers, children, pets, and, of course, children. Eventually, our conversations drifted to our middle age bodies, perimenopause and menopause. She mentioned that she was on day 20 of having her period.

"OMG," I said, "you must be so anemic."

She stopped in her tracks and grabbed my arm. "What do you mean, anemic?"

"You've been BLEEDING for 20 days! If you aren't anemic you're superwoman!"

She goes on to tell me that she has had to go and get iron infusions. She had never seen the links between her gynecological issues and the other medical issues she had. When she returns home she will make plans to talk with her doctors.

Sometimes, all it takes is an outside perspective to see the bigger picture. That's what we aim to do at Routhier Health Care Advocacy. We look at you, your concerns, and what's going on in your life to see the whole picture of you. Through that picture we will work as a team to connect the dots.

You don't have to journey alone!
